2-MAN best-ball

TOURNAMENT FORMAT & DETAILS.

EVENT STRUCTURE

Teams of two (2) playing at 70% handicap in the better-ball, stroke play format.

Local Qualifiers will be held throughout the year across the United States and Canada, with the top 3 teams and ties progressing to Regional Finals held at some of the finest golf courses in each respective region.

WHO CAN PLAY

The Vegas Golf Series is open to anyone with an official USGA or Golf Canada Handicap. It is every player’s responsibility to make themselves aware of Handicap Requirements and all Rules & Policies for the Vegas Golf Series.

team formation & handicap requirements

There are no minimum handicap requirements for this format given that we consider a team’s handicap in computing the final score. The two (2) team members’ aggregate USGA or Golf Canada Handicap Index cannot be greater than 40.0. A professional player may play as part of a team of two (2) and their handicap will be set at 0.0.

  • If a player does not have a verifiable USGA or Golf Canada Handicap, it will be set at 0.
  • The Handicap will be calculated where the event will be held.
  • Each team member will be playing at 70% handicap in the better-ball, stroke play format.
  • A maximum of 18 shots will be awarded towards a player’s handicap.
  • No one will be ”giving back strokes”. The lowest handicap will be set at 0.
  • If a player is a no-show or is late, his/her partner can still play alone.

For Example:

  • 0.0 + 0.0 = 0.0 (ELIGIBLE)
  • 10.8 + 26.8 = 37.6 (ELIGIBLE)
  • 22.8 + 30.2 = 53.0 (INELIGIBLE, team aggregate USGA or Golf Canada Handicap Index is greater than 40.0)

All USGA & Golf Canada Indexes must be current and active at the time of registration and through the event. Only official USGA & Golf Canada Handicap Indexes will be accepted at Vegas Golf Series events.

scoring method

To level out the playing field and to reward those who play the best relative to their true ability, the final team score is the team’s net score. We will use 70% of each player’s USGA or Golf Canada Handicap Indexes in computing the final score for the 2-Man Best-Ball. Each player plays his/her own ball, and the team score for each hole is the lowest net score of the two players.

EVENT STRUCTURE

Each team at the Regional Final teams up with the Professional of their choice with the top teams progressing to the VGS Final in Las Vegas, NV for the golfing experience of a lifetime.

Teams MUST respect the handicap criteria listed below when choosing their partners. The four-team members’ aggregate USGA or Golf Canada Handicap factor must be greater than 20.0 and at most 80.0. A maximum of 2 team members may have a Handicap Index below 5.0. A professional may play as part of a team of four (4), but their handicap will be set at 0.0. A maximum of 1 team member at the Local Qualifier may be a professional on a team of four.

A team of four that has made it to the Regional Final or the Las Vegas Final is required to add a fifth ‘wildcard’ player to the team. The fifth player has no restrictions and can be the player of your choice (professional or amateur). A team competing at the Regional Final or the Las Vegas Final is therefore eligible to have up to 2 professionals for the 5-Man team.

For Example:

  • 1.2 + 4.6 + 7.2 + 10.7 = 23.7 (ELIGIBLE, team aggregate USGA or Golf Canada Index is above 20.0)
  • 0.2 + 1.0 + 7.2 + 8.8= 17.2 (INELIGIBLE, team aggregate USGA or Golf Canada Handicap Index is below 20.0)
  • 2.5 + 3.7 + 4.4 + 12.1 = 22.7 (INELIGIBLE, more than 2 team members have a USGA or Golf Canada Handicap Index below 5.0)
  • 15.7 + 17.8 + 22.8 + 30.2 = 86.5 (INELIGIBLE, team aggregate USGA or Golf Canada Handicap Index is greater than 80.0)

All USGA & Golf Canada Indexes must be current and active at the time of registration and through the event. Only official USGA & Golf Canada Handicap Indexes will be accepted at Vegas Golf Series events.

scoring method

The final team score is the team’s gross score. The Vegas Golf Series does not use Handicap Indexes in computing the final score for the 4+1 Scramble. USGA & Golf Canada Handicap Indexes are used solely for team formation purposes in this format.
